IDC’s Quarterly Report on the Chinese Smart Devices Market, 26% Increase in Shipment Numbers

Smart speakers, voice interaction and interconnection functions in smart home appliances were the critical developments in the Chinese smart devices market in the first quarter of 2018.

A quarterly smart home device tracker by International Data Corporation (IDC) shows that 29.89 million smart home devices were shipped in the first quarter of 2018 in China, a year-on-year increase of 26.3 percent. Among them, video entertainment equipment and other large and small household appliances accounted for 87.4 percent of the total shipments.

“The voice platform and the interconnection platform in smart home appliances will become the strategic competing points for the smart home market, and the results will directly affect competition for software services catering to families in the future,” said Pan Xuefei, research manager of IDC China.

In addition, the shipment numbers of smart speakers, smart lighting and temperature control equipments grew the fastest. It is estimated that the number of smart home devices will reach 150 million in the market in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 35.7 percent.

By 2022, the number will exceed 300 million with a main growth from home security monitoring, intelligent lighting and smart speakers.
