Xpeng Aeroht’s Flying Car Completes Its First Flight in Guangzhou
On September 3rd, Xpeng Aeroht, a pioneer in the flying car industry, showcased their groundbreaking “Land Aircraft Carrier” in Guangzhou. This marked its first public test flight and signalled a significant step forward in the commercialization of personal air travel.
The “Land Aircraft Carrier” is a unique two-part system, consisting of a land vehicle and an eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft. The land vehicle, a range-extended hybrid pickup, serves as both a transport vehicle and a charging station for the aircraft. The aircraft, equipped with rotors and arm-like flight systems, can be stowed completely within the car, making it the first of its kind in the world.
Zhao Deli, the founder of Xpeng Aeroht, announced a production timeline for this innovative product at the unveiling event. The first public manned flight is scheduled for the Zhuhai Airshow in November, with the vehicle also set to make an appearance at the Guangzhou International Auto Show. Pre-sales are expected to begin by the end of the year, with mass production planned for 2026.
In addition to these milestones, Xpeng Aeroht also completed a significant B1 round of financing on the same day. They partnered with Guangzhou Development Zone Holding Group Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Financial Holding Group Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Development Zone Investment Group, securing the largest investment cooperation project in the Asian flying car sector to date.
Unlike many of its competitors who target corporate or government clients, Xpeng Aeroht plans to sell its flying car to individual consumers, making it a pioneer in the industry. Priced under 2 million yuan, the “Land Aircraft Carrier” is aimed at technology enthusiasts who appreciate cutting-edge innovation and seek unique experiences. These consumers will be able to fly their cars in outdoor flying camps, general aviation airports, and scenic spots.
The vehicle is designed with practicality in mind. Measuring approximately 5.5 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and 2 meters in height, it fits comfortably in a standard parking space or garage. The aircraft supports both manual and automatic driving modes, enabling one-key takeoff and landing, automatic route planning, and automatic flight. However, consumers will need to obtain a flight license, a process that Xpeng Aeroht is currently discussing with the Civil Aviation Administration.
Xpeng Aeroht’s “Land Aircraft Carrier” is equipped with the world’s first automatic separation and combination mechanism for vehicles, a proprietary technology developed by the company. The process of automatic separation and combination takes only 2-3 minutes, allowing the land vehicle to transport the aircraft to its flight destination.
The company is also focusing on outdoor flight experiences as a primary application for its flying car. They are planning a nationwide network of flying car experience camps, with over 70 already contracted and plans to reach over 200 by the end of the year. Additionally, in the public service sector, Xpeng Aeroht hopes to expand into emergency medical rescue, short-distance obstacle rescue, highway accident rescue, and high-rise escape pods.
Xpeng Aeroht’s commercialization strategy is divided into “three steps”. The first step is the launch of the segmented “Land Aircraft Carrier” for limited scenario flight experiences and public service areas. This will drive the construction and improvement of the low-altitude flight industry chain and ecosystem. The second step involves the introduction of high-speed, long-range eVTOL products to address air traffic issues in typical scenarios. The final step is the launch of an integrated land-air flying car to achieve door-to-door, point-to-point urban 3D transportation.
