Chinese Game Industry Revenue in April Reached $3.41B

CNG Data released its “April Game Industry Report” on Friday, showing that the sales revenue of China’s game market last month totaled 22.99 billion yuan ($3.41 billion), down 3.40% year-on-year.

In April, the sales revenue of China’s PC game market reached 4.939 billion yuan, increasing both month-on-month and year-on-year. Specifically, the main reason for the month-on-month growth is that the turnover of leading products such as “League of Legends,” “CrossFire,” and “Dungeon & Fighter” have risen in response to the promotion of special activities. However, the year-on-year growth rate was only 0.09%, and the market size is slightly higher than that of last year.

The sales revenue of China mobile game market was 16.959 billion yuan, an increase of 2.39% from the previous month. The main reasons for the growth are the release of new products, as well as holiday promotion of well-known games such as “Game for Peace.” However, the year-on-year decrease of 5.29% is mainly due to the poor performance of new works.

Among the top ten list of most turnovers, there were seven different types of games. MMORPG/ARPG games had the highest turnover during the period, which remains unchanged compared with the same period last year. The increase in turnover of turn-based RPG games is mainly due to the performance of popular products such as “Fantasy Westward Journey” and “Ask Tao.”

In April 2022, the number of mobile games that stopped operation increased 150% compared with the previous month – 80% of which had been operating for less than two years.

IP is an important attribute of games, and CNG Data also reviewed games derived from famous cultural works so far this year in its report. The “Qing Yu Nian” mobile game, “Swordsman World 3” and other products have won one billion yuan-level turnover in the first month of launch. Qing Yu Nian topped the list of new games derived from famous cultural works with the highest turnover in 2022 through multi-terminal operation.
