2019 Results Show Record Year for Huawei

Huawei officially revealed its business results Thursday for the whole of 2019, showing record results despite significant problems with the US. Compared with last year, the number of the company’s total smartphone shipments has increased by over 30 million units, now ranking second in the world.

Huawei‘s results show that in 2019, its smartphone shipments exceeded 240 million units, compared with 206 million units in 2018. Shipments of Mate and P series phones last year increased by over 50% year-on-year.

Huawei’s total 5G smartphone shipments reached 6.9 million units, striking a record high in terms of global market share. According to a research report from Strategy Analytics, global sales of 5G smartphones are expected to reach 160 million in 2020. China is expected to become the largest 5G smartphone market, with 5G smartphone sales reaching up to 80 million in 2020.

Huawei nearly reached its goal for smartphone shipments set at the beginning of this year. According to Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, global sales of Huawei and Honor smartphones were expected to reach 250 to 260 million units in 2019.

In addition, Huawei has also performed well in the smart wearable market. Huawei Watch 2 shipped more than two million units three months after its release, and Huawei FreeBus 3 headsets shipped more than one million units in the first month of its release. Huawei VR Class sales exceeded 10,000 on the first day of its release.
