Forbes’ annual Midas List is a data-driven ranking produced in partnership with TrueBridge Capital Partners showcasing the most prominent dealmakers in high-tech venture capital around the world.
According to the list released yesterday, a total of 21 Chinese investors have made the list this year, and among them 12 were women.
Some of the more notable names of women investors include Kathy Xu of Capital Today, Jenny Lee of GGV Capital, and Nisa Leung of Qiming Venture Partners.
To make the list, investors are ranked by their portfolio companies that have gone public or been acquired for at least $200 million over the past five years, or have raised additional funding at a valuation of $400 million or more.
Topping the list is Sequoia China’s Neil Shen, who has secured first place twice two years in a row. Forbes praised Shen’s success and described him as having the “Midas golden touch”. Shen has backed leading Chinese tech companies like Alibaba and JD.com and e-commerce site Pinduoduo.
The proportion of international investors, especially ones from China, has been slowly growing on the list, and thereby changing the landscape of Silicon Valley venture capitalists. The dominance of well-known companies such as Facebook and Twitter are slowly fading and giving way to a new generation of companies and investors to come.
