37Games Launches “Teen Mode” Face Recognition Technology
Guangzhou-based game developer and publisher 37Games announced on Thursday that it will introduce face recognition technology within its games to protect the health of minors, preventing them from fraudulently using adult accounts to play games.
After the function is launched, when the system detects an account suspected of being operated by a minor, it will take measures including face recognition for identity verification. If the user fails to pass authentication or refuses to verify their details, the account will no longer be able to play the game. At present, this technology has been launched within some games under the company, and will be extended to all of its products in the future.
Regarding this technical upgrade, 37Games said that it is an important measure for enterprises to implement anti-addiction systems and to improve the network security environment of minors. In the future, efforts will be made in its own technology, customer service, coordination together with players and partners. They will upgrade technology to build a protection network for the health of minors.
Earlier, 37Games also set up a special process and customer complaint specialists to deal with various problems related to minor users. In order to cooperate with parents in better protecting minor users, it let parents restrict or prohibit their kids’ playing time according to actual conditions, and on the basis of implementing the new anti-addiction regulations.

This is also one of the measures taken by 37Games in response to national policies in China. On August 30, 2021, China’s National Press and Publication Administration issued a notice on further strictly managing and effectively preventing minors from overindulging in online games, which made stricter requirements for minors’ anti-addiction work.
