36 Chinese Mobile Game Publishers Bag Nearly $2B in February
Mobile application and gaming market research platform Sensor Tower released the revenue ranking on Tuesday for Chinese mobile game publishers in the global app store and Google Play during February 2022. In the report, a total of 36 Chinese manufacturers entered the top 100 global mobile game publishers’ revenue list, bagging nearly $2 billion, which accounts for nearly 37.9% of the global top 100 mobile game publishers’ revenue.
Tencent Games, NetEase Games and miHoYo continue to occupy the first three positions among in the top five revenue list of global mobile game publishers. Among them, Tencent ranks first by relying on two popular games, “Honor of Kings” and “Game for Peace.” These two games have been launched for several years now, but their status remains undiminished. They bring Tencent several billion dollars in revenue every year, and can be regarded as China’s most popular games. Additionally, miHoYo’s Genshin Impact is still its main source of its revenue.
In February, “Song of the City on the Cloud” successfully entered the top five best-selling mobile games in Korea. Together with the steady performance of “Puzzles & Survival” in overseas markets, 37Games’ ranking advanced two places to fourth. King’s Choice, developed by ONEMT, continued its strong growth momentum, and its revenue surged by 31% month-on-month in February.
The 36 mobile game developers entering the top 100 Chinese mobile game publishers in global revenue include X.D. Network Inc., Chuang Cool Entertainment, JJworld, Bilili, SpringGame and Zlongame.

Among the top 20 mobile game revenues in China’s app store, income from Tencent‘s “CrossFire” and “QQ Speed” increased by 6% and 23% month-on-month, respectively, ranking seventh and 16th on the list. Chess and card games also gained dividends during the Spring Festival holidays. In this period, income from “Ocean Fortune” by Tuyoo Games increased by 25% month-on-month, setting a new income record and jumping into the top 10 on the list.
Chinese regulatory authorities responsible for the industry have still not resumed issuing registrations for new games. It has been rumored that many big game manufacturers have stopped the R&D of new games. In the case that new games are difficult to be launched, it will be important for Chinese game developers to keep stable and steady operations of their current games.
