Alibaba Cloud Ranks Third in Global Cloud Computing Market in 2021
IDC, an industry research institution, released its global cloud computing tracking data for 2021 on Wednesday, showing that the scale of global cloud computing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) market grew to $91.35 billion, up 35.64% compared with last year.
The top five cloud computing enterprises in 2021 were Amazon, Microsoft, Alibaba Cloud, Google Cloud and IBM, which is consistent with those of 2020. In 2021, Alibaba Cloud’s market share took up 7.4% of the entire market, making it the only Chinese manufacturer to enter the top three.
Huawei Cloud, Tencent Cloud, China Telecom, Baidu Cloud and OVHcloud ranked sixth to tenth respectively, four of them hail from China.
In addition to ranking third in the global market, Alibaba Cloud has long ranked first in the Asia-pacific cloud computing market. At present, Alibaba Cloud has established 26 regional nodes and 82 regions around the world, covering more than 200 countries and regions.
In the technical field, Alibaba Cloud owns Feitian, an in-house cloud operating system, along with its core technical capabilities such as computing, storage, network and security. The company has have achieved global leadership in professional evaluations.

Another report released in April by Garner, another industry research institution, showed that the global IaaS market size was $90.89 billion, which was close to IDC’s statistics. According to Gartner, the top three around the world include Amazon, Microsoft and Alibaba Cloud, with Alibaba Cloud achieving a market share of 9.55%. Huawei Cloud and Tencent Cloud ranked fifth and sixth respectively.
