Tencent Game Console Design Patent Authorized
According to Tianyancha App, Chinese tech giant Tencent secured a patent for a “PC Console” on Tuesday. The patent abstract shows that the product is to be used for games and entertainment with the essential features of the design residing within the shape of the product itself.
Pictures presented in the patent show that the console appears black and orange, with joysticks and buttons on both sides, similar to the Nintendo Switch.
As early as last March, pictures of Tencent’s games console began circulating on the Internet. At that time, the pictures showed that the game console was equipped with Win 10 buttons. However, the Win 10 button on the now-revealed picture is missing, which may indicate that the game console may not run the Windows system, and may only run Tencent‘s own games just like the Switch.
Tencent is currently the sole agent of the Nintendo Switch in China, which was released on December 4, 2019. Before licensing the Switch console, Tencent had a few of its own ideas about PC-based game consoles, including launching a WeGame-customized version of the Hardes Canyon NUC in cooperation with Intel, which focused on a miniaturized design and high-performance gaming.

Tencent‘s current mobile game performance has also been in the forefront. According to Sensor Tower, in March 2022, Tencent’s “Honor of Kings” earned $272 million in the world’s two major app stores, ranking first on the global best-selling list of mobile games, with an increase of 5.8% year-on-year. Revenue from China’s iOS market accounted for 96.6%, while revenue from overseas markets accounted for 3.4%.
