Douyin and TikTok Garner $277M in May Revenue
Mobile app data analysis firm Sensor Tower released a report Thursday claiming that in May, TikTok and its sister app for mainland China, Douyin, earned more than $277 million from the App Store and Google Play. The sum was 1.6 times that of last May, remaining the top global non-game mobile app in terms of revenue.
According to the report, about 47.5% of revenue came from China’s Douyin, 17.7% came from TikTok in the second-largest US market, while 4% came from the third-largest Saudi Arabian market.
In addition, YouTube ranked second on the list with revenue of nearly $119 million, an increase of 17.6% compared with last May. Specifically, 40.1% of revenue came from the US market, while the Japanese market ranked second, accounting for 19.6%. The other three apps in the top five were Google One, Tinder, and Piccom. Tencent Video and iQiyi ranked 7th and 9th, respectively.

The data on Douyin in the field of e-commerce is also very bright. On the second day of the Douyin E-commerce Ecological Conference in June, the president of Douyin E-Commerce announced that the platform’s GMV in the past year increased 3.2 times year-on-year, and that more than 10 billion products were sold. The growth rate confirmed that “interest e-commerce,” a type of e-commerce aiming to satisfy consumers’ implicit needs while improving their life quality, is a huge business opportunity.
