Tencent Completes Full Cloud Integration for Massive Self-Developed Business
Tencent Cloud announced on Wednesday that many of its internal self-research businesses were fully on the cloud. This means that Tencent‘s internal businesses, including QQ, WeChat, Tencent Video, and Honor of Kings, will be developed and operated based on a public cloud model.
Over the past three years, the scale of Tencent‘s self-research business on the cloud has exceeded 50 million cores, with cumulative cost savings of more than 3 billion yuan ($446.8 million). Tang Daosheng, Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent and CEO of Tencent Cloud and Smart Industry Group, said: “It not only helps Tencent build a future-oriented technical architecture and R&D culture by uploading its massive internal business to the cloud, but also comprehensively hammers Tencent Cloud’s product, technology and comprehensive service capabilities to help the development of the real economy.”
In 2018, Tencent launched an overall strategic upgrade and established a technology committee to clarify two major technology strategies, namely “open source collaboration” and “self-research in the cloud.” The latter is mainly to move the massive self-research business of Tencent Group, including social, games, content and other businesses, to the cloud.
In January 2020, Tencent put QQ on the cloud. Unlike the original tidal wave management of the public cloud, QQ is highly emergent and requires a higher level of sudden response to the cloud. The QQ team has addressed the issue of network interoperability. The cloud is more difficult for WeChat than for QQ because the development frameworks for WeChat and QQ are different, and WeChat has a larger volume of users than QQ.
