DJI Releases Osmo Pocket — Hybrid of Drone and GoPro
Tighten your purse strings, otherwise Osmo Pocket, the smallest handheld stabilized camera released by Chinese drone company DJI on Nov.29, will take $349 right out of your pocket.
While the Mavic 2 Enterprise, which was revealed about a month ago, was trying to tap into the professional space, the new DJI product targets almost everyone who would like to record and share their memories.

“Innovation is at the heart of every product we create and DJI Osmo Pocket is here to change the way photos and videos are captured, not just by professionals but by parents, couples, adventurers, travelers, and everyone in between,” said Roger Luo, President at DJI.
Aimed at offering drone-like footages in a smaller size that is comparable to a GoPro, Osmo Pocket is a portable camera that supports FPV mode, ActiveTrack, FaceTrack, time lapse, and 3×3 & 180° panorama.
It stands four inches tall and weighs about four ounces (116g). Once folded, the camera can easily slide into one’s pocket, thus explaining its name.
Sitting on a three-axis gimbal, the camera has a 1/2.3-inch sensor that can take 12MP photographs and record 4K videos up to 60fps at 100Mbps in stunning detail. If you shoot in 4K at 30fps, the battery can last up to two hours.
As short videos and live streaming are sweeping the world, the Osmo Pocket is likely to grab a good chunk of the market share.
“While trying out the Osmo Pocket, it occurred to me that I can shoot vlogs as a part-time job. With this device, all I need to do is to press a button,” said Xingyou Shen, a tech reviewer.
Compared to the previous Osmo series which needed mobile phones for their display screens, the Osmo Pocket has a 1-inch integrated touch screen. Users can have fun recording while using their phones for messaging or making phone calls. They can also plug their phones into a modular port on the Osmo Pocket for a bigger screen and more controls with DJI’s app.
“Osmo Pocket is a portable personal camera crew and we can’t wait to see how people use it to capture their stories and share them with the world,” Luo said.
