BYD Launches Seal Model, Starting at $31113
On July 29, Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD held an online conference and announced the details of its newest vehicle, Seal. Delivery will start in August and the vehicle will range in price from 209,800 yuan to 286,800 yuan ($31,113 – $42,532).
Seal is the second model of the marine life series after Dolphin. It is built on e-platform 3.0 architecture, with the zero-to-one-hundred acceleration time 3.8 seconds and has a maximum cruising range of 700km.
The BYD Seal is available in 8 color schemes and features a vehicle designed with soft curvature. The length, width and height of the vehicle are 4800 mm, 1875 mm, and 1460mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2920mm.
The BYD Seal is the world’s first model featuring Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology and is also BYD’s first model with a rear-drive/four-wheel drive structure.
The standard cruising model is equipped with a 150kW rear motor and 550km CLTC cruising range. The long-range version comes with a 230kW rear motor and 700 km CLTC driving range. The 4WD performance version has a total front and rear motor power of 390kW and a CLTC range of 650km.
For fast charging, the Seal model provides two versions. The standard range versions has a 110kW DC fast charging system, the long-range version version and the four-wheel drive performance version have a 150kW DC fast charging system. It takes less than 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% with these fast charging capabilities.

In addition, all four models come standard with a panoramic canopy and a wind resistance coefficient as low as 0.219 Cd. Inside, the BYD Seal features 10.25-inch full LCD instruments and a 15.6-inch adaptive rotating center panel with the latest version of the DiLink eco-system, supporting 5G network connectivity. The high-end version also has Dynaudio’s speaker, a head-up display, driver fatigue monitoring system, seat ventilation / heating and other features.
