XPeng’s Flying Car to Undergo Compliance Verification Test Flights

XPeng Motors’ flying car division, XPeng Aeroht, said on September 9 that its X2 smart electric flying car will be transported to Dubai to carry out compliance verification test flights. The company will showcase the product at GITEX GLOBAL, the largest technology event in Dubai, to be held from October 10 to October 14.

The X2 is the fifth generation of XPeng Aeroht’s two-person intelligent electric flying vehicles. The whole body adopts a carbon fiber structure, and the weight of the vehicle with the battery is 560 kg, with a maximum load of 200 kg. It has a maximum endurance of 35 minutes and a maximum altitude of 1,000 meters.

XPeng‘s X2 was officially approved in November 2020 and successfully flew for the first time in June 2021. It adopts a closed cockpit and has the ability of autonomous flight path planning. Through multiple sensors, the aircraft can realize ground monitoring, zero dead angle environmental perception, self-guided return and landing, and two-way real-time communication within 100 kilometers. It is suitable for low-altitude flights in future cities, with a maximum speed of 130 km/h during flight.

According to XPeng Aeroht, flying vehicles need a new control logic and system, integrating the features of airplanes and vehicles to meet the driving needs for both flights and land travel.

With current technology, cars and airplanes have different control logics and systems. Flying cars need to drive on the road and fly in the sky. If the two systems are simply superimposed, it is bound to cause excessive control equipment, resulting in complex user settings.
