Huawei Pocket S Foldable Phone to Be Unveiled Nov 2
Chinese telecoms giant Huawei has announced that it will hold a new product launch conference on November 2, during which its second vertically foldable smartphone will officially debut. This model is not to be named the “P50 Pocket New” as previously surmised by industry analysts. The firm is abandoning the series precedent by adopting a new product name, the “Pocket S.”
According to an official promotional video, the Huawei Pocket S will be aimed at young consumers. Each letter of “POCKET” has a different color, indicating that the new model will be available in six colorways: black, blue, pink, white, green and yellow.
According to previously leaked information, the Huawei Pocket S has two chipeset versions which are equipped with a Snapdragon 778G 4G processor or a Snapdragon 8+ 4G processor. However, at present, only one model has been certified by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology smart device library, so the processor version will be a cliffhanger at this conference.
A Chinese digital blogger broke the news that the price of the Huawei Pocket S will be about 6,000 yuan ($826), and that the processor will likely be a Snapdragon 778G chipset.
Huawei Pocket S is also expected to be equipped with Huawei’s own imaging brand XMAGE, which mainly focuses on optical systems, imaging technology, photo processing and other fields.

For reference, in December last year, Huawei P50 Pocket, Huawei’s first vertically foldable flagship smartphone, was released. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 888 4G processor and the P50 series dual-ring design. The upper ring on the back is a lens module and the lower ring is a small-sized external screen, which can display information such as notifications and time.
The Chinese foldable phone market is currently in a period of high-speed growth. In January this year, a report released by CINNO Research showed that it is estimated that in 2022, the sales volume of foldable smartphones in the global market is expected to reach 15.69 million units, up 107% year-on-year.
Technically speaking, Huawei has now mastered three foldable mobile phone technologies: inward folding, outward folding and vertical folding, such as the Huawei Mate X2, Huawei Mate Xs 2 and Huawei P50 Pocket.
Huawei’s technical strength has allowed it to receive recognition from consumers. According to a ranking of popular foldable smartphone brands in China in the second quarter of this year, Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, Xiaomi, Honor and vivo occupy the top positions, and Huawei’s market share is as high as 48.5%.
