Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Features New “Necklace Mode”
On April 13, Chinese consumer technology company Xiaomi announced several new features of its upcoming Xiaomi Smart Band 8. The unexpected addition of support for “necklace mode” will allow users to wear the oval-shaped smartwatch as a necklace.
In necklace mode, the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 still supports functions such as time display, step counting, and NFC without being affected by changes in form.
The firm claims that the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 is “more fashionable, professional, and interesting.” Promotional posters show that there are multiple straps available which are made of leather, metal, and fabric. The creative pairing with rich themes makes it a unique decorative piece.

With comprehensive balance configuration and competitive pricing, the Xiaomi Smart Band series has been popular among global consumers. Zeng Xuezhong, senior vice president of Xiaomi and president of the mobile phone department, revealed that as of May 2022, its sales had reached over 140 million units. Within less than one month after the release of the Xiaomi Smart Band 7, its global shipments exceeded one million units.
As a reference point for comparison, Xiaomi Smart Band 7 was equipped with a 1.62-inch OLED screen which increased visual area. By adopting an entirely new design language, it has a better viewing experience. More than 100 new themes were added. It also supports always-on display (AOD) and over 120 kinds of sports modes. It can continuously monitor blood oxygen saturation and vibrates when low blood oxygen saturation occurs. This product is priced from 239 yuan ($35).
The starting price for Xiaomi Smart Band 8 is expected to be around 300 yuan.
It’s worth mentioning that on April 18 during their launch event where Xiaomi founder Lei Jun is expected to speak about their latest flagship phone, Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Other highly anticipated products like Xiaomi Pad 6 along with the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 will also be unveiled.
