Tesla’s New Model Y Begins Parallel Production at Shanghai Factory as Current Model Sees Price Reduction
On November 25, Tesla China announced a limited-time discount for its star model, the Model Y. From now until December 31, consumers can enjoy a discount of 10,000 yuan off the final payment when purchasing the Model Y rear-wheel drive and long-range all-wheel drive versions, in addition to a five-year 0% interest financial policy. This means that the total price of the Model Y rear-wheel drive version is only 239,900 yuan, less than 240,000 yuan. After a down payment of 79,900 yuan, the monthly payment is approximately 2,667 yuan.
In addition to price reductions in China, Tesla has also rolled out car purchase discount policies in the United States and Europe. In the United States, customers who take delivery before the end of the year can enjoy three months of free supercharging and FSD (Full Self-Driving) discount policies. In Europe, those who purchase a Model Y by the end of the year can enjoy a year of free supercharging services, among other things.
The Tesla Model Y has been on the market for nearly five years and has never undergone a generational change. There have been frequent rumors this year that a new Tesla Model Y, named “Juniper,” may be launched in the first quarter of next year. At that time, the new car will have changes in headlights, interior, battery, etc., and the domestic version will also launch 6-seat and 7-seat versions. However, as of today, none of the above news has been officially confirmed. The industry generally speculates that this price reduction may be to clear inventory for the new Model Y launch.
Some social media bloggers have claimed to have received news that the new and old Model Ys from Tesla’s Shanghai factory have already begun parallel production, although the proportion of new Model Ys is very low. If this news is true, it means that the launch of the new Model Y is fast approaching, and may indeed be launched in the rumored first quarter of next year.
The new car will be equipped with a front face design similar to the new Model 3, and the interior will also be consistent with the new Model 3, also eliminating the gear lever next to the steering wheel and replacing it with screen shifting and button turn signals. In addition, it is rumored that the new car will be equipped with a larger 95 kWh battery, with a maximum range of over 800km.
