WeChat Official Account Grayscale Testing AI-Generated Image Function
The WeChat Official Account backend recently conducted a grayscale test on a new feature. During the article editing process, in addition to selecting from the image library, uploading locally, and scanning with WeChat, a new option has been added – ‘AI (Artificial Intelligence) Image Matching’, which can also be used for cover images. According to reporter’s test, not all WeChat Official Accounts have activated this feature; only some accounts are included in the grayscale test.
WeChat Official Accounts that have used this feature told reporter that using this function is very easy. Simply click on ‘AI Image Matching’ when inserting an image to jump to the relevant page. The usage is similar to common graphic software: enter corresponding prompts, styles, sizes and wait a few seconds to get four candidate images. Users can adjust the images by entering prompts until they are satisfied.
The above operations indicate that in the past, they relied more on image libraries such as Dongfang IC and Visual China for cover images. If unable to find them, they would also use some domestic and foreign graphic software like Midjouney and Wenxin Yige. Now with the launch of this feature on WeChat Official Accounts platform, image editing can be done within the platform without having to go outside, which speeds up content editing and saves costs on purchasing image copyrights.
At Tencent Holdings Ltd.’s third-quarter performance exchange meeting, Tencent President Liu Chiping responded to the benefits brought by artificial intelligence to the company by mentioning, “I think currently the most important benefit is in content recommendation and positioning because AI engines in these two cases are generating a large amount of user engagement time. At the same time, AI has brought us higher incremental positioning rates and response rates for our applications. Both of these technologies have actually directly benefited our business and increased advertising revenue.”
Furthermore, Liu Chiping believes that AI is a productivity tool used frequently by every user. For example, Copilot (an AI assistant) is widely used by engineers and has effectively improved efficiency for businesses. Many enterprises both internally at Tencent are using Hunyuan’s large models while attempting to integrate artificial intelligence into their production processes. Therefore, I see many products and services adopting AI; however it may take several quarters before we see larger-scale practical use cases where we can then share with everyone.
