Temu Temporarily Suspends Services in Vietnam at Regulatory Request

On Wednesday, Vietnamese media cited the Ministry of Industry and Trade stating that Temu has temporarily suspended its services in Vietnam, in cooperation with and as requested by the Ministry.

Currently, orders purchased on Temu cannot clear Vietnamese customs. Only after permission from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, can customs procedures be processed for import and export goods traded through Temu. Temu has now completely switched the interface language of its app and website from Vietnamese to English.

In October, Temu launched its Vietnamese site, offering free shipping and up to 90% discounts in the Vietnamese market. However, in November, the Vietnamese government stated that Temu needed to register with the government before the end of November, otherwise, its internet domain and app would be blocked in the country.

The platform has announced that “After the registration process is completed, Temu will continue to support Vietnamese.” It also stated that the company is still cooperating with the Ministry of E-commerce and Digital Economy and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to register its e-commerce qualifications.

In response to this, a source close to Temu revealed to Chinese media Jiemian News that unlike Amazon, cross-border e-commerce platforms from China (including Temu, SHEIN, etc.) have encountered the same problem in Vietnam this year. Temu is actively communicating with relevant Vietnamese government departments to seek a solution. The source stated that Temu is sincere in providing Vietnamese consumers with high-quality and affordable Chinese-made goods, just like consumers in the Americas, Europe, and Africa, who have all benefited to varying degrees from Chinese-made goods.
