MiniMax’s Emotional Companion Product Talkie Is Suspected to Be Delisted in the US
The star product Talkie under the AI unicorn company MiniMax is suspected to have been removed from servers in the United States. Currently, the Talkie application cannot be searched for in the Apple Store in the US region, while the Android version has not been affected.
Public information shows that Talkie has become popular across the internet and is a star product for AI going global. Talkie allows users to create and interact with virtual characters based on fictional or real people, fully utilizing people’s current demand for personalized and immersive experiences.
According to Sensor Tower, in the first half of 2024, Talkie became the fourth most downloaded artificial intelligence application in the United States, surpassing its Google-backed competitor Character.AI, which ranked tenth. The global download volume of Talkie in the first eight months of this year has reached 17 million times.
The specific reason for Talkie’s removal is currently unknown. Apart from the possibility of product adjustments and operational strategies, it cannot be ruled out that it may have violated Apple’s relevant policies or be related to the increasingly strict regulatory policies on Chinese AI companies by the United States.
It is worth mentioning that MiniMax has made significant commercial progress in the past year, with this year’s revenue expected to reach around $70 million, most of which comes from Talkie’s advertising revenue. Therefore, the removal of Talkie will undoubtedly have a certain impact on MiniMax’s performance.
MiniMax has not yet responded to the reason for this removal, only stating that the removal is temporary.
