China Gets Favorable Draw in World Cup 2022 AFC Qualification

On Wednesday, July 17, at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the draw for the second round of World Cup 2022 Qualification was announced. The groups are as follows:

Round 2 draw results

Second round FORMAT:

All eight group winners, and the four best second place teams will advance to the Third Round of World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualification.

Third round format:

The Third Round will split the 12 teams into two groups of six. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the World Cup. The two third placed teams from each group will play a two-legged playoff to determine who will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs, to play a team from a confederation to be determined, for a spot in the World Cup.

China’s Group A:

China is relatively lucky with a favorable draw into Group A, that includes Syria, the Philippines, the Maldives, and Guam. The only difficult match should be against Syria, with the other Pacific island nations lacking any genuine quality.
