Pinduoduo’s MAU Exceeds Taobao’s in Q1: App Annie Report
The MAU (Monthly Active Users) of Pinduoduo surpassed Taobao in the first quarter of 2020, mobile data and analytics platform App Annie reported Thursday.

According to App Annie’s report released on April 9, Pinduoduo took 9th place on the top 10 monthly active users list, up from 11th place in the fourth quarter of 2019. Taobao, however, went from 8th to 10th this quarter. Monthly active users of Pinduoduo surpassed Taobao for the first time in a year.
The MAU data was collected from users on iPhone and Android phones.
“Daily time spent on mobile devices grew across the world as the outbreak expanded in Q1 2020,” App Annie said. “In China, the first country to deal with the impact of coronavirus, daily time spent grew 30% to 5 hours per day on average from 2019.”
Pinduoduo previously reported an average of 481.5 million monthly active users in the fourth quarter of 2019, an increase of 77% from 272.6 million in 2018. Active buyers in the twelve-month period were 585.2 million as of December 31, an increase of 40% year-on-year.
