Tencent to Release Mobile Version of Legacy PC Game ‘Dungeon & Fighter’ This Summer
Tencent on Wednesday said that it would launch the mobile version of the PC “beat ’em up” action game Dungeon & Fighter in the Chinese market in summer 2020, as the PC market’s revenue continues to decline amid the industry’s shift to mobile platforms.

According to a WeChat post from Tencent‘s official gaming account, Dungeon & Fighter Mobile will include new content such as classes and skillsets that are exclusive to the mobile platform.
To ensure fluid, arcade-like combat experience that has been a feature of the PC title, the mobile version of Dungeon & Fighter will feature a series of optimizations to the game’s controls while preserving the core mechanics such as free skill combinations.
Dungeon & Fighter is one of Tencent‘s most profitable legacy PC titles. The game has brought in more than $13.4 billion worldwide as of 2019 since its launch in South Korea in 2005, with the bulk of the earnings coming from China, where Tencent owns the exclusive distribution license.
However, as China’s video game market shifts to mobile platforms, Dungeon & Fighter saw declining revenue in the past few quarters. In its earnings results for the fourth quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, Tencent cited Dungeon & Fighter as the reason for the company’s shrinking revenue from PC client games.
Tencent has a track record of creating mobile versions of PC titles to monetize their IPs. The company’s PUBG Mobile and Peacekeeper Elite, the overseas and Chinese mobile version of battle royale PC game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, have raked in more than $2 billion worldwide as of March 2020. Call of Duty: Mobile, which was created by Tencent‘s TiMi Studio as part of the Call of Duty franchise, also saw substantial success in overseas markets, grossing more than 43 million in April alone.
