China’s Leading Ride Hailing Platform DiDi Releases “2020 in Numbers” Report
With the pandemic sweeping the globe, 2020 undoubtedly went down in history as an unusual year. For China’s leading ride hailing platform DiDi Chuxing (DiDi), the pandemic brought the firm new opportunities and challenges. With 600 million users and driver partners as well as 13,000 corporate employees, DiDi released a “2020 in Numbers” report on Thursday to capture the firm’s highlights from last year.
In terms of the pandemic control, DiDi distributed more than 11 million sets of free masks and sanitizers to drivers and couriers worldwide throughout 2020. In addition, DiDi drivers and couriers provided more than 6 million free or discounted rides and meals to frontline medical workers and others in need.

With the help of technology, DiDi worked hard to protect the safety of its passengers. The engineering team produced products and services like mask verification, contact tracing, and protective dividers to help with the global disinfection work. In addition, drivers outside of China chose to activate advanced safety options over 25 million times. In-trip audio recording was used over 1.3 million times and over 23 million trips were shared with trusted contacts.
Across DiDi’s global markets, the risk analysis and management algorithms activated over 361 million control acts ranging from safety reminders, extra verifications, and warnings, as well as geo-fencing and active individual interventions. These measures paved the way for the firm’s significant improvement in safety measures. Per the report, major safety incidents dropped by 50.8% year-on-year in 2020. In-trip disputes and conflicts were down by 42.3%, while sexual-related complaints dropped by 71.4%.
By October 2020, the number of DiDi’s global trips hit a new record high of 60 million. With its newly-launched efficient services like group-buying, in-person delivery and freight business, the firm saw a 12% year-on-year growth in its client base.
In the future, DiDi is planning to expand its inclusive and sustainable transportation services to more global markets. In 2020, six new markets were opened – Russia, Peru, Panama, Argentina, the Dominican Republic and New Zealand, in which around 1 billion trips were completed outside of China.
