CATL Reaches Strategic Cooperation with Tencent Cloud to Jointly Build AI Innovation Base
Chinese electric vehicle battery manufacturer CATL has signed a strategic agreement with Tencent Cloud, aiming to jointly build an AI innovation base and expand cooperation in R&D, achievement application, personnel training and other areas.
According to the agreement, Tencent Cloud will provide infrastructure such as a data center, private cloud storage and an AI algorithm platform for the innovation base. Based on the technical advantages of Tencent‘s Youtu Lab in the field of computer vision, both parties will focus on tackling a series of global problems in the field of new energy quality inspection.
This cooperation will help CATL improve its R&D efficiency for cutting-edge AI technology and high-level electric batteries.
President Xi Jinping announced in September 2020 that China, the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, aimes to reach its carbon emissions peak by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. The world is currently undergoing a round of technological and industrial changes, in which new energy has gradually become the main engine of transformation in global automobile industry.
Facing a rapid increase in market demand, new energy battery enterprises are eager to improve their production capacity to meet more customers’ needs. Previously, CATL put forward the concept of “extreme manufacturing,” planning to integrate AI, big data and cloud computing into all aspects of manufacturing new energy vehicle batteries, improving production efficiency.
CATL announced in June that it has signed a new long-term agreement with Tesla, an American electric vehicle manufacturer, to supply lithium-ion batteries to Tesla from January 2022 to December 2025.
