Huawei’s First Flip Phone Rumored to Arrive December 23 With Concept Renders Released
On November 17, Huawei released its foldable smartphone Mate X2 Collector’s Edition. Now, a Weibo tipster ‘@Juchang Yingye Fans‘ says that Huawei’s first flip smartphone will be released on December 23, and that its name is not MateV, with details to be announced at the press conference.
Another Weibo tipster ‘@Pandaisbald‘ revealed on December 4 that Huawei will release new products on December 23. In addition to its new flip smartphone, there will be other new products such as the Huawei WATCH D, its first smartwatch with a blood pressure monitor, Huawei Smart Screens and Huawei MateBooks, among other products.
However, unlike Mate X2’s ‘book-style’, Huawei’s new foldable smartphone adopts the clamshell form factor of phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. This new foldable smartphone is also Huawei’s first flip phone.
The exposed render images show that the back cover of Huawei’s new smartphone adopts a dual-ring design similar to the Huawei P50. The upper ring is a triple-camera unit, and the lower ring is the back cover display. The back cover display is convenient for viewing notifications and other messages after closing the smartphone, and it also supports the AOD feature.

The dual-ring design of the new smartphone is similar to that of the P series. Considering the product positioning of Huawei’s P series, which focuses on fashion photography, it is very likely that the new flip phone also adopts a feminine fashion positioning, which is separated from the business positioning of Mate X series. There is not much information regarding product configuration exposed at present, but it will still be equipped with a Kirin 9000 processor.
