BYD ETM6 eTrucks to be Used For IKEA Delivery Services in Amsterdam

On Wednesday, Chinese manufacturing company BYD announced a major commitment with Top Delivery Services, a Dutch delivery company, to emission-free city distribution. The move follows the purchase of 10 BYD ETM6 pure-electric eTrucks and was made in collaboration with Bluekens EV, a strategic partner and BYD eTruck dealer for the Netherlands.

BYD said that these vehicles will operate in Amsterdam, the largest city in the Netherlands, and provide zero-emission distribution service for IKEA.

As the main model of the BYD truck family, the vehicle is powered by the company’s Iron-Phosphate Battery technology. The BYD ETM6 zero-emission electric truck offers the longest driving range (200 km with a full load) which is safe, quiet and practical for operating in high density city centres.

In addition, its interior and exterior decoration is designed by Wolfgang Egger, an internationally renowned automobile designer, and is matched with a variety of innovative features within the car itself. This design aesthetic has made it even more attractive to operators looking to meet environmental protection goals while maintaining a professional, modern style.

Gert-Jan Jonker, General Manager of Bluekens EV, said: “The BYD ETM6 is perfect for emission-free city logistics. Compared to most electric trucks, this model drives smoothly, has a long range for everyday use, a low TCO and fast charging technology.”

BYD added that, up to now, it has delivered more than 16,000 pure electric trucks and special vehicles, and has successfully entered the markets of developed countries such as European countries and the United States.

On December 4, BYD released its production and sales report for November 2021. The report shows that the total installed capacity of BYD’s power batteries and energy storage batteries in that month was about 4.883 GWh, an increase of 151.7% year-on-year, and a new record of monthly installed capacity. This year, the cumulative installed capacity of BYD power batteries and energy storage batteries reached 32.873 GWh, up 212.15% year-on-year.

In addition, BYD produced 91,829 new energy vehicles in November, up 242.77% year-on-year, and sold 91,219 new energy vehicles, up 241.77% year-on-year.

In terms of production, BYD further increased its investment. On December 5, BYD’s new energy auto parts industrial park project officially signed a contract to land in Xi’an’s High-tech Zone. The total investment of the project is expected to be about 15 billion yuan ($2.36 billion), mainly for the construction of core components such as electric assembly plants, electric motor plants, and electric control plants. The new industrial park is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2024.
