Abandoning NVIDIA’s Thor, XPeng Self-Developed Chip May Be Launched in May

XPeng Motors has made progress in developing its own chip. According to informed sources from Leiphone, XPeng Motors’ self-developed chip will be installed for the first time in cars this May. It is reported that at the end of May or early June this year, XPeng Motors will release a brand-new model, which will be the first model equipped with their self-developed chip, internally codenamed ‘F57’.

On August 27th last year, XPeng Motors held a press conference and officially unveiled its self-developed chip named ‘Turing Chip’. The Turing Chip by XPeng is customized for AI large models and can be applied simultaneously to various AI hardware such as AI cars and flying cars. The computing power of the Turing Chip is three times that of its competitors.

An insider told Leiphone, ‘(The computing power of the Turing Chip) is sufficient for XPeng, and it offers much better value than Thor.’ The insider also revealed that XPeng Motors now ‘completely ignores NVIDIA’, only maintaining contact when it comes to previous Orin chip projects. It was disclosed that all upcoming new models by XPeng Motors will be equipped with their self-developed chips without plans to use Thor chips.

It is reported that this year XPeng Motors will launch multiple new models including G01 which is a larger 7-seater SUV compared to G9; another new model called G7 positioned higher than G6; additionally, there will be an extended-range version of MPV X9’s facelift model. ‘There may be up to four new models including major facelifts and minor updates; potentially over ten new models from XPeng this year,’ said the aforementioned source.

Previously, Chairman He Xiaopeng defined 2025 as a big product year for XPeng announcing a target annual sales volume of 350 thousand vehicles by then representing an 83% increase from 2024. In January this year, XPegn delivered 30,350 new vehicles showing a growth rate of 268%, surpassing Li Auto and ranking first on the monthly delivery list among emerging forces.
