Alibaba Enters Exclusive Partnership With Salesforce Amid Trade War

Salesforce announced on July 24 that Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is now the exclusive cloud services provider for the American Customer Relationship Management (CRM) service provider in Greater China.

Together, Salesforce and Alibaba will bring Salesforce’s number one CRM platform, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Commerce Cloud, and Salesforce Platform to customers in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Alibaba’s advanced and secure infrastructure combined with its knowledge of these markets will empower customers with a solution that meets local business needs. In addition, Salesforce will become the exclusive enterprise CRM sold by Alibaba in those markets.

San Francisco-based Salesforce, a top seller of software for managing customer relationships, has recently started to expand internationally, announcing investments and adding talent throughout Europe and Asia. Salesforce has previously had a limited presence in China and is now entering the country at a time when the U.S. government has made it difficult for some American technology companies to sell products to Chinese customers.

Alibaba Cloud is number three in the global Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Infrastructure Utility Services market, and number one in the Asia Pacific region, according to research and consultancy firm Gartner. Alibaba has stated that their Cloud technology and public cloud platform underpin the entire Alibaba economy from e-commerce and payments to logistics and supply-chain management.
