Alibaba Executive Jiang Fan Steps Down as Legal Representative of Several Firms

Recently, Jiang Fan, an executive of Alibaba, will no longer serve as the legal representative and chairman of several companies, including Zhejiang Taobao Network Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Tmall Network Co., Ltd., Alibaba Xunxi (Hangzhou) Digital Technology Co., Ltd., and others. At present, Jiang is no longer serving as the legal representative of any firm.

According to industrial and commercial sources, Jiang currently serves for 7 enterprises, of which 3 have now been canceled. Further, he indirectly holds shares of 118 firms and serves as a director in Juran, a house decoration firm.

Jiang received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Fudan University before going on to work in the product development division at Google China. He also founded and served as chief executive officer of Umeng, a provider of mobile app analytics solutions for developers which Alibaba Group later acquired. After joining in Alibaba in 2013, he served as president of Taobao, Tmall, and Alimama.

In December last year, Daniel Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group, sent an internal letter to announce that the company would upgrade its “diversified governance” system, including transferring Jiang, who had been president of the Taobao and Tmall marketplaces, to the overseas business division.

The international digital commerce unit will house Alibaba’s overseas consumer-facing and wholesale businesses, and include AliExpress, Alibaba.com and Lazada. The unit will be headed by Jiang.
