Alibaba Health Releases ESG Report Covering Healthcare, COVID, Carbon Emissions
Alibaba Health, the flagship healthcare platform of Alibaba Group, recently published its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report for April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022 (Financial Year 2022).
As of March 31, 2022, nearly 160,000 licensed physicians, pharmacists and nutritionists were available on the health platform to provide online consultation services to users, reaching an average of 300,000 consultations per day. Alibaba Health now provides online consultation services with professional pharmacists on a 24/7 basis. It has served 6.5 million users, with annual growth of 119%.
In order to achieve higher quality assurance, Alibaba Health has invited third-party institutions for competency certifications and security assessments. As of March 31, 2022, several systems and platforms including Alibaba Health, Alibaba Cloud (a data services provider for the healthcare industry), “Dr. Deer” (a medical consultation system on Alibaba Health’s platform) and “Ma Shang Fang Xin” (a platform operated under Alibaba Health) had been certified by reputable institutions. Among them, Ma Shang Fang Xin managed to obtain the highest-level certification in information security for non-banking institutions in China.
In response to the “Healthy China” strategic plan, Alibaba Health has introduced a training program for doctors in less-developed areas. As a result, more than 10,000 doctors from 421 county hospitals have been trained. The company has alsofocused on medical care for children with serious disease and patient support program for rare diseases and special drugs needed, all in an effort to enhance public welfare.
Alibaba Health has a key part to play in the internet healthcare industry amid the lingering pandemic. Not only has it been upgrading its pandemic-related healthcare services on platforms such as Alibaba Health Pharmacy and the Dr. Deer app, it has also increased the number of cities in which consumers can access door-to-door COVID-19 nucleic acid testing services.
In active response to China’s national goal of carbon peaking and neutrality, Alibaba Health collaborates with the data centers operated by Alibaba Cloud to replace traditional IT infrastructure with cloud computing. This has the ultimate aim of improving hardware efficiency in computing utilization rate, heat-dissipation efficiency and power usage effectiveness (PUE).
In light of the increased usage of online consultation apps, Alibaba Health has also launched its own digital platform providing users with one-stop consultation services from online registration, waiting, remote follow-up consultations to home delivery of medicine, in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.
