Apple Is Communicating with Tencent Regarding the App Store Commission

Recently, there have been rumors that ‘the iPhone 16 may not support WeChat.’ In response, a reporter called Apple‘s official hotline, and a technical consultant from Apple China stated that regarding whether the iOS system or Apple devices can continue to use WeChat, as well as whether WeChat can continue to be listed and downloaded in the Apple App Store, this matter needs to be discussed and communicated between Apple and Tencent to determine the future situation.

The technical consultant pointed out that developers may need to pay a certain fee for their software to be listed on the Apple App Store. Once the software reaches a certain number of downloads, for any subsequent downloads, the developer must pay Apple the corresponding fee. Currently, Apple is actively communicating with Tencent to confirm whether Tencent will continue to provide downloads for the Apple App Store with a revenue share.

In addition, the technical consultant stated that as WeChat is a popular software, both parties will handle matters in their mutual interest, so users do not need to worry for now. He emphasized that regarding the future availability and usability of WeChat, we cannot make any judgments based on third-party information, and the above explanation is for reference only.

The official Apple customer service stated that WeChat is a frequently used app by customers, and the new iPhone models will not revoke the app permissions that customers have previously used normally. ‘As for the claim that the iPhone 16 does not support WeChat, we have not received any official notification on this matter,’ the customer service representative said. Subsequently, a reporter called Tencent‘s official phone line, and the staff stated: ‘We have not received this news yet.’

Currently, both Tencent and Apple have not made any formal response, and it is advised to treat such news with caution, with everything subject to official announcements.
