Apple Vision Pro Faces Potential Trademark Conflict with Huawei in China
Apple may face a naming controversy with its newly launched mixed reality (MR) headset, the Apple Vision Pro. The product was unveiled at the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), but reports suggest it shares its name with a trademark registered by Huawei four years ago.
Huawei applied for the “Vision Pro” trademark on May 16, 2019, according to the China’s National Intellectual Property Administration and China Trademark Network. The trademark was officially announced on November 27, 2021, and has a term of exclusive rights extending from November 28, 2021, to November 27, 2031, a total of 10 years. The registered trademark number is 38242888, and it falls under International Classification 9, covering products and services including LCD TVs, head-mounted virtual reality devices, and radio equipment.
The Huawei Vision Pro trademark covers two of Huawei‘s product lines: the Huawei Vision Glass smart viewing glasses and the Huawei Vision smart screen series. It has no connection to head-mounted display products.

Due to this, industry insiders have suggested that Apple may need to change the name of the Vision Pro for its domestic launch in China.
The Apple Vision Pro is the company’s first foray into MR technology, offering users a blend of virtual and augmented reality experiences. With features such as eye-tracking, hand gestures, and voice for input, the headset signifies Apple’s commitment to the emerging field of spatial computing. However, the alleged trademark conflict with Huawei could pose a hurdle for the tech giant’s latest venture.
