Apple’s OEM Pegatron Invests 400M Yuan in Chinese Mainland Factory

Pegatron, an Apple’s original equipment manufacturer, announced today that its mainland subsidiary spent NT $1.14 billion (250 million yuan) to buy a factory in Chongqing.

In addition, Pegatron invested NT $714.78 million (156 million yuan) to purchase manufacturing equipment and other facilities for the factory. The total investment was NT $1.86 billion (400 million yuan).

Pegatron has iPhone assembly plants in Shanghai, Suzhou and Kunshan, with more than 50 percent of its profits coming from Apple OEM products. Pegatron CEO Liao Cizheng said in April that it was necessary to buy new equipment to replace older devices and to improve automation.

Some market watchers believe Pegatron is likely to win Apple’s new OLED iPhone orders next year, thanks to strong revenues this year.
