The ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) Phone 2 is launching on July 23, and ASUS just confirmed it will be the first smartphone to be powered by the game-centric Snapdragon 855 Plus. The Snapdragon 855 Plus has a slight advantage over the Snapdragon 855 in terms of game processing and VR capabilities. Specifically, this new 8-core processor from Qualcomm will run at up to 2.96GHz compared to 2.84GHz previously, while the upgraded Adreno 640 graphics will result in a speed boost of about 15 percent. There are still many details yet to be confirmed about the ASUS ROG 2 but it has been announced that the display will have a refresh rate of 120Hz to ensure ultra smooth scrolling and display performance.
ASUS has also partnered with Tencent Games prior to the release of the ROG 2, to bring new gaming content to ASUS users and optimize the overall gaming experience. In addition to technical support from Tencent, the ROG 2 is equipped with the Storm network accelerator, which will optimize the phone’s performance over cellular networks, including the impending arrival of 5G cloud gaming. The Storm network accelerator will improve the latency, especially over 4G networks which can be sometimes be inconsistent when running mobile games.
