AutoX Expands Robotaxi Operations to Over 1000 km²
AutoX, an autonomous driving firm, announced on Friday that it has been testing its RoboTaxi operations in the top four cities in China. It has now expanded its largest Robotaxi operations zones to be over 1000 km².
AutoX was founded in September 2016 and is headquartered in Shenzhen. The company has R&D and operation centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Silicon Valley and Changzhou.
AutoX is the first and currently only company in China operating a completely driverless RoboTaxi service on public roads without any safety driver. AutoX also obtained the World’s second driverless RoboTaxi permit for the state of California. Last month, AutoX disclosed for the first time its factory with the capability of large-scale mass production of unmanned vehicles.
One Autox employee said, “To truly implement its ideas, RoboTaxi needs to ensure three preconditions: unmanned, a large coverage area and a high coverage density.”
In a video released by AutoX, the unmanned vehicle runs smoothly within an area of 1,000 square kilometers covering various road conditions. In addition, the unmanned vehicle passed through three tunnels at a speed of 50-60 km/h.
When arriving at an area where a safety officer is required, the unmanned vehicle can automatically pull over to pick up the officer.
