Baidu Announces ChatGPT-Style Project Called Ernie Bot
Chinese tech giant Baidu said on February 7 that it would complete internal testing of a ChatGPT-style project called “Ernie Bot” in March. However, should the pace of development of Microsoft and Google increase, the opening of internal testing may be earlier.
In September last year, Baidu CEO Robin Li stated that the development of artificial intelligence has “substantial changes at the technical level and commercial application level”. Presumably, Baidu started to research Ernie Bot at that time.
Baidu currently has ChatGPT-related technologies. Baidu has a full stack layout in the four-tier architecture of artificial intelligence, including chips, deep learning frameworks, large models and search applications. Ernie Bot is located at the model layer.
Baidu has been deeply involved in the field of artificial intelligence for decades. It has Wenxin, a large-scale pretrained model for natural language understanding and generation, and has the ability of deep semantic understanding and generation across modes and languages.
ChatGPT, launched by OpenAI in November last year, is a natural language processing tool driven by artificial intelligence technology. It can talk by learning and understanding human language, interact according to the context of chat, communicate like human beings, and even complete tasks such as writing emails, video scripts, copywriting, translation and code. On February 2, OpenAI released a pilot subscription plan called ChatGPT Plus, which will be available for $20 a month.

ChatGPT is considered a milestone in artificial intelligence, which means that the technology has developed to a critical point, and enterprises need to catch up as soon as possible.
