Baidu's Robin Li says internalizing AI as a native capability will turn intelligence from a cost into productivity, as Baidu unveils new chips, ERNIE 5.0, and its self-evolving super agent at Baidu World 2025.

Baidu held its 2025 Baidu World Conference in Beijing on November 13, themed "Emergent Effects." The company unveiled progress in domestic AI chips, foundational models, and application innovation, underscoring AI as a new source of native productivity for industry.

During the keynote, Baidu founder Robin Li said that "when AI becomes an internalized, native capability, intelligence is no longer a cost—it becomes productivity." He outlined three key directions for enterprises adopting AI: replacing repetitive tasks, enabling unlimited productive capacity, and surpassing human cognitive boundaries.

Baidu announced several major updates, including:

  • New-generation Kunlun Chip M100/M300 and Tianci supernodes, designed to deliver lower-cost compute for large-scale model training and inference;
  • ERNIE 5.0, a fully upgraded native multimodal large model with stronger understanding, generation, and agent capabilities, now available in preview through the ERNIE app;
  • "Famou," the world's first commercially available self-evolving super agent, positioned as an adaptive, continuously iterating problem-solving system for complex industry scenarios.

On the application front, Baidu showcased the latest in its Huiboxing real-time interactive digital humans and continued progress in AI-enhanced search, which is shifting from link-based results to rich media outputs. Globally, Baidu's autonomous ride-hailing service Apollo Go now operates in 22 cities with over 17 million rides completed, while the GenFlow intelligent agent has surpassed 20 million users, making it one of the world's largest general-purpose AI agents.

Li emphasized that only by internalizing AI as an inherent capability can enterprises truly achieve emergent effects and accelerate the development of new productive forces.
