Baidu’s Robin Li: Ernie Bot 4.0 Has Surpassed GPT-4 in Chinese Language Processing
Baidu‘s founder, Robin Li, discussed Baidu‘s Ernie Bot on a TV program on March 9. He stated that Ernie Bot 4.0 has surpassed ChatGPT 4.0 in Chinese. As an example, he mentioned that many large models can now write acrostic poems, but if asked to write a poem in the style of “Qinyuan Spring,” they would struggle. ChatGPT 4.0 cannot understand whether the first sentence should have four or five characters.
However, Li also admitted, “Objectively speaking, Ernie Bot doesn’t have as much English training data as ChatGPT, so there is a gap in English performance.”
Regarding negative online reviews of Ernie Bot, Li is not upset. He hopes to change these people’s opinions within a year and is full of confidence in them. “If those who get the professional edition license compare it with ChatGPT 4.0, they will discover how excellent Ernie Bot is.”
It is understood that Ernie Bot 4.0 has made significant progress in understanding, generation, logic, and memory. The improvement in understanding and generation capabilities is similar, while the increase in logic and memory capabilities is even greater. The improvement in logic is nearly three times that of understanding, and the improvement in memory is more than twice that of understanding.
Regarding the user base of Ernie Bot, Baidu released the latest data. Since it was opened to the public on August 31, Ernie Bot has been used by over 100 million users.
