Banma Releases Self-Developed Intelligent Driving System Kernal, to Provide it for Free to Chinese Car Companies in 2022
Chinese tech company Banma officially released its self-developed AliOS intelligent driving system kernel at the 2021 Apsara Conference held on Wednesday.
Banma confirmed plans to officially launch this operating system kernel in 2022 and provide it to Chinese car companies free of charge. This will be industry’s first free kernel for safety certification.
A vehicle operating system is categorized as both a vehicle control operation system and intelligent cockpit operating system. Vehicle control operation system is a key underlying technology for vehicles. The AliOS intelligent driving system kernel is a type of real-time vehicle control operation system. At present, the kernel of AliOS intelligent driving system has been certified by ASIL-D for international product safety.
So far, Banma has developed more than 100 million lines of AliOS operation system codes and applied for more than 2,000 patents on its own, and has attracted more than 2 million intelligent car users.
Banma intends to lay a solid foundation for its vehicle operation system. It plans to jointly build a New Automobile Apsara Lab with top universities and industrial partners at home and abroad, and construct a collaborative innovation platform for production, education and research in automobile technology ecology.
Banma is a Chinese unicorn company, centered on automobile technology. It started R&D of vehicle operating systems as early as 2014. Its internet car solutions are adopted by many well-known enterprises such as SAIC, FAW and Volkswagen in China, and it has reached cooperation with over 40 car models.
Also at the Apsara Conference, Banma also announced the launch of Luoshen Intelligent Cockpit System in conjunction with SAIC passenger cars. This system is first installed in the MG ONE and Roewe brand-new RX5 MAX, and these new cars were launched on the same day.
In July this year, Banma received investment of 3 billion yuan ($469 million) jointly from Alibaba Group, SAIC, State Development and Investment Group Co., Ltd. and Yunfeng Fund. Banma then confirmed its smart cockpit OS will be used by several automobile brands from the second half of this year to next year.
