Beike Advances Green Transformation with Sustainable Store Network

Beike, China’s leading residential services platform, is implementing environmental sustainability initiatives through a comprehensive low-carbon development strategy, centered on its expanding network of green stores and innovative digital solutions.

Store is the core of Beike’s operation. The company has been seeking opportunities in integrating the environmental protection and concept into the store’s operation and leverage the digital solution to facilitate this process. Building on best practices from Lianjia stores, Beike conducted a gap analysis comparing existing store renovation and operation standards with green building criteria. In 2024, the company established Lianjia Green Store Standard as an innovative management measures to proceed the transformation towards sustainable store network. This standard comprehensively addresses store renovation and operations, covering the use of green building materials, recycling practices, energy-efficient equipments, smart electricity control systems, indoor environmental quality, and community engagement. All new and renovated Lianjia stores in 2024 adhere to these standards, with plans to complete evaluation of all stores by 2030.

The company’s environmental sustainability strategy encompasses four key areas – green services, green stores, green office, and green advocacy – each supported by concrete initiatives and measurable outcomes.

In the realm of green services, Beike leverages digital technology and clean energy solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of its core business. The company’s innovative VR property viewing technology has demonstrated remarkable environmental benefits, with VR home tours viewed approximately 1.96 billion times from January to September 2024, reducing carbon emissions by 3.626 million tonnes. The company has also transformed its delivery fleet, with more than 95% of its home renovation and furnishing delivery services utilizing new energy vehicles by the end of 2024 in Beijing operation.

For green stores, Beike implements smart technologies and sustainable practices to create environmentally friendly physical locations. By the end of 2024, all Shanghai Lianjia stores and over 95% of Beijing Lianjia stores had adopted intelligent store monitoring and control systems, enabling real-time energy usage tracking and smart device management. The success of this approach was validated when the Beijing Lianjia Alfa Community Store achieved LEED Gold Certification in 2023.

In office operations, Beike focuses on sustainable building practices and employee engagement in environmental initiatives. In 2024, the company’s environmental activities reached over 100,000 participant engagements, promoting awareness through initiatives like National Low-Carbon Day and World Environment Day events.

Through green advocacy, Beike extends its environmental impact beyond its operations to influence broader community behavior. The company’s Blue Ocean Campaign, launched in 2020, has resulted in the restoration of over 113.3 mu (approximately 7.55 hectares) of mangroves and the planting of about 260,000 mangrove trees by December 2024. The company has also implemented innovative initiatives like the Sustainable Apartment Agreement, encouraging tenants to adopt environmentally conscious practices, and maintains a strict Greenfield Development Commitment to protect natural reserves and green areas.

Through these comprehensive efforts, Beike is contributing to environmental responsibility in China’s residential industry. This holistic approach to sustainability demonstrates Beike’s commitment to balancing business growth with environmental stewardship, showing how meaningful environmental action can be successfully integrated into residential service operations while maintaining business excellence.
