BYD Destroyer 05 Released With New Design, Equipped With DM-i Super Hybrid System
On Friday, BYD launched its Destroyer 05 at the Auto Guangzhou 2021. The new car can be regarded as the sister model of BYD’s Qin PLUS DM-i, which is also equipped with the DM-i super hybrid system.
BYD disclosed that it has launched two sales divisions, one is the Dynasty series, and the other is the Ocean series. The Ocean series will adopt a new sales channel and will be displayed and sold in 4S stores, malls and exhibition centers.
The Ocean series will also be divided into two major product lines: the first will be the pure electric product series named after marine life and equipped with the latest technology of the company’s e-platform 3.0. Products of the other line are named after warships and equipped with DM-i super hybrid technology. According to the naming rules of the warship product line, the sedans will be named “destroyer”, SUV models will be “cruiser”, and Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) models will be “landing ship”.
The Destroyer 05 is the first sedan under the Ocean series and is classified as an A+ class car. The car will feature a borderless front grille inspired by the ripples of an ocean’s waves and will adopt BYD’s new logo. With a smooth side profile, the vehicle will measure a length, width and height of 4780*1837*1495mm, with a wheelbase of 2718mm.

In terms of power system, the Destroyer 05 is equipped with BYD’s DM-i super hybrid system and will contain a Snapdragon 1.5L engine, EHS system, and dedicated blade battery. The model can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as fast as 7.3 seconds and consumes only 3.8 liters per 100 km at the lowest charge.
The Destroyer 05 offers a choice of 55km and 120km of pure electric range. For the standard range version, the motor has a maximum power of 132kW and a maximum torque of 316Nm. For the long range version, the motor has a maximum power of 145kW and a maximum torque of 325Nm. The latter version also supports 25kW fast charging, taking only 25 minutes to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent.
BYD has not yet announced the official launch date and price of the Destroyer 05. According to ITHome, its price range will be 120,000 to 150,000 yuan ($18,780-23,475).
