BYD Obtains Electric Bus Order from European Operator Nobina
Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD announced on November 21 that it has signed an order for 64 electric buses with Nobina, the largest bus operator in Northern Europe. These vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2023 and put into operation in Nedre Glomma, Norway.
The new order includes 40 12-meter and 24 15-meter pure electric buses. Both vehicles are equipped with electric heating management systems developed independently by BYD. The systems will enable the vehicles to better operate in the extreme Norwegian weather. At the same time, thanks to the new generation of lithium iron phosphate batteries and integrated controller assembly systems, the safety and endurance of the bus are better ensured. In addition, the buses have adopted newly upgraded interior and exterior materials to provide passengers with a comfortable and environmentally friendly travel experience.
Since establishing a cooperative relationship with BYD in 2015, Nobina has operated over 300 BYD’s electric buses in Sweden, Norway and Finland. In 2021, BYD built the largest electric bus fleet in Finnish history for Nobina, with a total of 119 units. At the beginning of 2022, BYD signed an order for 30 buses with Nobina again, which will be put into operation in Helsinki by the end of the year.
At present, there are several Chinese brands producing pure electric buses, such as BYD, Yutong, CRRC Corporation, Nanjing Golden Dragon Bus and Chariot, in the European market. Around 2013, BYD entered global markets with their version of electric buses. A wheel drive system, battery thermal management system and core technologies of batteries, motor and electronic control, offer advantages such as extreme temperature resistance, long life, high safety, easy maintenance and wide application.

While meeting the unique needs of global customers, BYD’s buses come at a high price. The 7-18 meters electric buses in US were priced from $600,000 to $1.2 million.
After stopping production of its fuel vehicles in March and switching focus to pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain vehicles, BYD witnessed sales of over 200,000 units in the past two months.
