BYD Reaches Production of 2M Photovoltaic Modules in Brazil

Leading Chinese new energy vehicle and battery firm BYD announced on October 21 that its cumulative output of photovoltaic modules in Brazil has exceeded 2 million. The company also previously announced that it will start producing a new type of photovoltaic module in December. This product is an N-type TOPCON photovoltaic module with power of 575W, characterized by high efficiency and durability.

BYD is continuing to promote the development of the Brazilian new energy automobile industry. On October 18, the firm reached a strategic cooperation agreement with the Brazilian division of Santander, a leader in the domestic auto finance industry, in auto finance. Under the arrangement, the two sides will introduce auto finance solutions, and local consumers can enjoy more flexible and convenient financial loan services including credit evaluation, credit review and payment scheme when purchasing BYD cars.

In addition to the automotive business, Santander is also a leading financial solutions provider in this field, cooperating with BYD dealers in the photovoltaics field.

BYD has built three factories in Brazil. In 2014, it set up a Brazilian branch, opened an electric bus chassis factory in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil in 2015, and opened a solar module factory in April 2017 to provide zero-emission clean energy products such as pure electric buses, trucks, forklifts and solar modules. In 2020, BYD’s lithium iron phosphate battery factory in Manaus, Brazil was officially put into operation, with an annual output of 18,000 battery modules.

In April this year, it opened a new production line for photovoltaic modules at its Campinas factory, and achieved technical optimization by transforming the production line equipment and production process. At that time, the plant had a capacity of 500 MW and would produce new panels based on multi-bus, half-cell and 1/3 cut battery technologies, with a power output range of 450 W to 670 W.

BYD said that its new production line can be compatible with photovoltaic cells of all sizes on the market at present, and that its productivity and efficiency have been greatly improved, further promoting upgrades of the energy industry.
