BYD Releases New Concept Car Ocean-X
On September 8, Chinese battery and electric vehicle (EV) firm BYD debuted its “e-platform 3.0,” an exclusive platform for EVs, and new concept vehicle “Ocean-X,” as a solution to user concerns regarding the safety and cruising range in low temperatures.
“E-platform 3.0 is the most critical step for BYD to evolve from electrification to intelligence in the EV transformation,” said Wang Chuanfu, BYD Chairman and President.
The BYD vehicles can drive up to 150km with just five minutes of charging, when using electric boost fast charging technology, and the direct cooling and heating technology of power battery can increase the thermal efficiency by 20% and reduce energy loss. Regarding increasing sources of energy and saving costs, BYD vehicles allow for a wide range of operating temperatures from -30°C to 60°C, enhancing the maximum cruise distance in winter by 20%.
BYD’s e-platform 3.0 is highlighted by safety, efficiency, intelligence and design aesthetics. In terms of safety, the e-platform 3.0 also uses the ultra-safe blade battery, integrating the blade battery with the entire structure, thereby establishing a pure electric power transmission path. For efficiency, all models feature the world’s first eight-in-one electric powertrain, with a maximum driving distance of over 1,000km.

Regarding the technology’s intelligence, e-platform 3.0 thoroughly integrates such functions as driving, braking and steering, fully exploits the fast response of the motor, and develops the industry’s first power domain controller. The vehicle features BYD OS, China’s first mass-produced vehicle operating system, enabling the complete integration of application software and vehicle hardware and achieving sustainable self-evolution of the vehicle. In terms of aesthetics, the low car body and long wheelbase lower the overall wind resistance coefficient to 0.21.
