BYD Seal Champion Edition to Be Launched on May 10
On May 8, BYD announced that the Seal Champion Edition pure electric sedan will be launched on May 10. The new car has made corresponding optimizations to the design and configuration details of the Seal based on market feedback and user needs. There are rumors that the starting price of the new model has been adjusted to 189,800 yuan ($27,444).
The Seal Champion Edition has appeared in the library of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Unlike the existing Seal models, the Seal Champion Edition is mainly optimized and adjusted for vehicle models and configurations. It adds a rear-wheel drive model with a range of 700km, which has the same configuration as the high-end version with a range of 550km. It is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 170kW, and its power index is between the existing standard rear-wheel drive version with a range of 550km and long-range rear-wheel drive version with a range of 700km, making it more balanced.

Referring to some of the practices of BYD’s previous champion edition models, the Seal Champion Edition may have some changes in color matching and interior materials. For example, it may provide a dark-toned interior that the market expects.
In terms of intelligent configuration, the new car will support Apple NFC car key and have switchable sports version corner window decorations. The EC canopy is optional for the 700km endurance model. In addition, DiLink has optimized settings functions that do not restore to the previous setting after vehicle restarts, including wireless charging, lane keeping, iTAC, etc.
In April, BYD sold a total of 210,295 vehicles, with passenger car sales reaching 209,467 units and a year-on-year growth of 98.6%.
It is worth mentioning that the sales volume of the BYD Seal model was only 6,212 units, which is significantly lower than its peak period when it exceeded over 15 thousand units. Whether the new champion edition can increase its competitiveness remains to be seen.
