BYD Secures Order From Spanish Bus Operator Arriva

Shenzhen-based auto company BYD announced on July 14 that it has won an order for 15 electric buses from Spanish public transport firm Arriva. These vehicles are expected to be delivered in 2023 and will be put into operation in Alcorcón, a municipality in southwestern Madrid.

The new orders include 12 12-meter low-floor pure electric buses and three 13-meter low-entrance pure electric buses, both of which adopt a new generation of ferrous lithium phosphate batteries developed by BYD.

BYD said that these 13-meter low-entrance pure electric buses are entering Iberian Peninsula for the first time, with adopted reinforced interiors and equipped with intelligent early warning system, which greatly improves the safety of vehicles. This model will mainly serve many intercity routes in greater Madrid.

Antonio Cendrero, the CEO of Arriva, said: “These vehicles will help us achieve zero emission travel plans, build a sustainable electric bus fleet, and provide high-quality travel services for local residents.”

BYD electric buses have now covered more than 50 countries on six continents, including almost all developed countries. After entering the Norwegian market, BYD passenger cars have recently reached a strategic cooperation with Louwman, a Dutch dealer group, and the first store will open within this year.

In addition, in the first half of 2021, BYD disclosed a sales target of 1 trillion yuan ($147.9 billion) and 3 million passenger cars in 2025. In August of the same year, it advanced the realization time of this goal to 2024, which will composed of sales volume in domestic and overseas markets. The European market is becoming the main direction for BYD.
