BYD Sees 70,000th Pure Electric Bus Roll Off Production Line

On Wednesday, Shenzhen-based automaker BYD saw its 70,000th all-electric bus, a 13-meter model due for shipment to Sweden, roll off the production line at its Hangzhou facility.

BYD entered the automobile industry in 2003, released the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid powertrain new energy vehicle (the F3DM) in 2008, and entered the field of buses in 2009.

In terms of buses, BYD has always adhered to its brand mission and once proposed a solution to electrify city buses in 2010. In 2011, BYD provided 200 K9 buses to serve the 26th Summer Universiade, Shenzhen.

BYD also promoted the strategy of “bus electrification” from China to the world. It has attracted visits from developed countries such as the the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan, and won its first public bidding for electric buses in Europe in 2012. The firm has successively opened business operations in Italy, the U.S., South Korea, Japan and Germany.

This 13-meter pure electric bus, which rolled off the assembly line at BYD’s bus production facility in Hangzhou, is being shipped to Sweden. BYD entered the Swedish market in 2015, and has successively won more than 200 orders for pure electric buses. At present, BYD has operated efficiently in Swedish cities such as Eskilstuna, Norrtalje and Stockholm Barkarby.

Up to now, BYD has delivered over 70,000 pure electric buses to global partners, with a total operating mileage of over 5.5 billion kilometers. Its buses run on more than 300 cities in more than 50 countries and regions across the world, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 4 million tons, equivalent to planting 350 million trees.
