BYD Song the Bestselling SUV Brand in China in July
On August 23, the China Association of Automotive Manufacturers (CAAM) announced the top 10 sales list of SUV brands in the domestic market during July, among which BYD’s Song DM model sold over 30,000 units, reaching the top of the list.
The top 10 SUV brands sold 225,600 vehicles in July, accounting for 21.9% overall. In July 2022, the top 10 SUV brands in terms of sales volume were the BYD Song DM, Haval H6, Honda CR-V, BYD Yuan EV, Changan Automobile CS75, Tiguan, Tiggo 7, Toyota RAV4, Aion and Mercedes-Benz-GLC. In addition to the Song DM leading many brands with sales of over 30,000 vehicles, the Haval H6 and Honda CR-V also have a big gap between them and BYD’s Yuan EV.
Compared with last month, except for the Toyota RAV4, sales of other brands have increased. Compared with the same period last year, the sales volume of Toyota RAV4 declined, while other brands increased by varying degrees, among which the sales volume of BYD’s Yuan EV and Song DM increased rapidly.
On July 21 this year, the CAAM also released sales rankings of the top 10 SUV brands in the first half of 2022, among which Tesla’s Model Y sold about 180,000 vehicles, far ahead of all SUV brands. However, Tesla’s domestic sales often changed drastically, and there is no Model Y in the top 10 sales lists for July. According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, in July 2022, the monthly retail sales of Tesla’s Model Y was 7,640 units. Compared with last month, its sales volume dropped by 85.3%.
