BYD Unveils Dolphin Electric Car in Thailand

The Thailand version of BYD Dolphin was unveiled at the 2023 Bangkok International Motor Show on March 22. The new version is different from the current version sold in China, and its appearance details have been adjusted as the car has adopted the right-hand steering wheel layout.

In terms of appearance, the Dolphin Thailand version follows the design of the Chinese version, but the front bumper has been changed. Black decorative strips have been added on both sides, and the exterior rearview mirror shell has been blackened.

As for the rear of the car, the Dolphin Thailand version also made adjustments to the rear bumper and added black decorative strips. In addition, the car is available in Coastal Cream and Flora Purple color options.

In terms of interior design, the Dolphin Thailand version still adopts design elements such as a suspended central control screen and circular air conditioner vent, but the steering wheel has been changed to a right-side rudder layout. The car is equipped with LED headlights, an electric folding of exterior rearview mirror, a large sunroof, 12.8-inch central control screen, 5-inch dashboard, Bluetooth, keyless entry, one-button start, Apple CarPlay smartphone connection, six airbags, tire pressure monitoring, 360 degree camera and other configurations.

The Dolphin Thailand version is equipped with a front motor with a maximum power of 70 kW and a maximum torque of 180 Nm. It is matched with a battery pack with a capacity of 44.9 kWh, and has a pure electric cruising range of 410 km under NEDC conditions.

In terms of selling price, the Dolphin Thailand version is priced at 799,999 baht ($23,264). By contrast, the suggested retail price of the 2023 BYD Dolphin in China is 116,800-136,800 yuan ($16,968 – $19,874).

BYD is increasing its investment in the Thai market. On March 10 of this year, the company held a groundbreaking ceremony for its first overseas passenger car production base in Rayong, Thailand. The plant is scheduled to start production in 2024 with an annual capacity of 150,000 new energy vehicles.
